When starting the deer-farm Stedemanshof clearly intended to be a venison-farm. The original number of 25 breeding hinds soon grew to 100 and more. The total number of deer on the farm amounted to about 230. [ The trailer/drop-floor crush (developed by Ludovic while in the venison business) makes it easier to handle deer in slaughterhouses that have no special infrastructure for them. ] Selecting for weight never became Ludovic's passion, however. His attention and interest were more and more drawn to breeding deer with strong antlers. Step by step, the business was turned in that direction. This also meant finding a new market. Indeed, Stedemanshof no longer produced meat for the local market, but sold livestock to countries like the Netherlands, France, Spain, Greece, ... Undoubtedly, other countries will be added to this list in the years to come. Moreover, as of autumn 2001, Stedemanshof will also produce embryos and store them for international transactions. To meet these objectives, the number of breeding hinds has been reduced to 50. The farm's infrastructure has been improved with a.o.hydraulic handling systems.
